Origami Swan vs. Scorpion

Origami Swan vs. Scorpion, originally uploaded by *moonglow*.

As a Buddhist, Yoshizawa believed origami brought the animals he made to life: giving life was a gift of the gods, he would say, hence he was the gods' intermediary. He often prayed before he folded, putting his hands together, closing his eyes, beseeching the appropriate powers, then taking a deep breath as he picked up a piece of paper. To fold you must be relaxed and mentally prepared, he instructed pupils, plus you need these, he would add, holding up all 10 fingers and grinning: "Clean hands!"
